The journey so far
The Cape Town Bodyboarding Association is the official regional bodyboarding organisation for Cape Town and the surrounding areas. Originally founded as the Western Province Bodyboarding Association, the organisation evolved into Cape Town Bodyboarding, and today continues that legacy as CTBA — focused on growth, inclusivity, and performance.
Our mission is simple:
We believe bodyboarding is more than just results — it’s about culture, friendships, mentorship, and creating opportunities for the next generation of riders.

Extraordinary Experiences
At CTBA, we’re passionate about giving our riders the chance to experience what it’s like to represent their region on the big stage. From their very first local contest, we aim to create an environment where members can grow in confidence, develop their competitive skills, and become part of something bigger than themselves.
We provide clear pathways for riders to progress — taking them from grassroots events to provincial and national competition, while creating opportunities to travel, connect, and compete beyond their local breaks. It’s all about helping our members gain real competitive experience, build lasting friendships, and grow through the journey both in and out of the water.

Charl Watkins
Chairman
Charl has served on the CTBA committee for the past two years and is deeply passionate about growing and developing bodyboarding in Cape Town. He focuses on building a positive, inclusive community that supports athletes, organisers, volunteers, and families alike. With the backing of a dedicated committee, Charl aims to strengthen local bodyboarding culture, grow the sport at grassroots level, and contribute to a sustainable future for bodyboarding in Cape Town.
Bart Larter
Captain & Vice Chairman
Bart has been riding a bodyboard since 1993 — around the same time he picked up his first guitar — two lifelong passions that have shaped his journey. Growing up in Gonubie on South Africa’s East Coast, surrounded by world-class right-hand point breaks and heavy slabs, he developed a deep love for the sport. For Bart, bodyboarding is about more than competition; it’s about community, culture, and connection. As Cape Town Bodyboarding Captain, he continues to give back to the sport that has defined much of his life.
Margaux Randall
Secretary
Margaux is the Secretary of the Cape Town Bodyboarding Association, a working professional, dedicated grom mom, and organiser extraordinaire. From entries and schedules to waivers and WhatsApp groups, she’s often the one making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. Passionate about growing the Cape Town bodyboarding scene, she is committed to supporting young chargers and helping every competition run as smoothly as a glassy day at the beach.
Donne Stratford
Treasurer
Donne serves as Treasurer of the Cape Town Bodyboarding Association, overseeing the club’s finances and ensuring its financial sustainability. As the proud mom of one of the team’s Pro riders, bodyboarding holds a special place in her heart. She is committed to giving back to the community that has given so much to her family.
Craig Trilivas
PR, Marketing & Social Media Officer
Craig has served on the executive committee on and off since 2009/10, has represented the team since 2015, and has been riding since the age of 12. A self-proclaimed “world’s okayest bodyboarder,” vintage collector, DK frother, and full-time stokelord, Craig is deeply passionate about the sport. Bodyboarding has had a profound impact on his life, and he is committed to paying that forward to the next generation of riders.
Chad Brookstein
Vice Captain & Co-Contest Director
Chad has been part of the Cape Town Bodyboarding team for seven years and currently competes as a Pro rider. Being part of this community has taken him places he never imagined and allowed him to meet some of the biggest names in the sport. He believes in the inclusive spirit of bodyboarding — a space where you can be yourself, no matter your age or background. For Chad, bodyboarding in the Cape is one big family, and he’s excited to see the community continue to grow into something truly special.
Luke Bruton
Event Coordinator
Luke has been involved with WP Bodyboarding since 2016 and is dedicated to developing the next generation of riders while helping grow the sport. He focuses on running high-energy events that are fun, progressive, and packed with great prizes. For Luke, it’s all about building community, keeping the stoke alive, and helping bring bodyboarding back to where it belongs.
